Lovewell State Park and campground is located in northern Kansas. It is just off of CR334 near Webber. Lovewell State Park has ten campgrounds, several are tent campsites but we have never had a problem getting an electric site. There are shower houses with toilets as well as pit toilets in each campground. While the shower houses are not as clean as I would like they are a welcome site after a day of fishing. I can’t think of one good thing to say about a pit toilet other than the fact it is much better than Mother Nature’s restrooms.

If you prefer cabins to camping Lovewell State Park has six of them. They are rustic

meaning they have beds but you have to bring your own sleeping bag. No fridge or stove so you have to bring your own cook stove and cooler. They do have heating and air conditioning electrical outlets, and rustic furniture but port-a-potties stationed outdoors are your bathrooms. These cabins are very popular in the wintertime. We have friends that are hunters and they usually go three or four times during the fall and winter months. They have a ball but you should always call and reserve the cabins in advance or you might be really disappointed.

The Lovewell Reservoir is adjacent to the State Park and it has a full service marina. The reservoir ...

      • has several swim beaches and picnic areas and is often used by day use people, they all draw a crowd in the summer time.

The fishing is great, you can rent a boat with a trolling motor very cheaply or you can fish off one of the courtesy docks. They rent a variety of boats so if money is no object you will find just the right boat for you. If you bring your own boat there are several boat ramps to launch off of. We have found that the fishing is best in the early morning at this lake, we have caught a variety of fish, including Walleye, Crappie, Bass, and Catfish. For all you

fishermen out there, the south shore has high bluffs that block the wind, there is nothing worse than trying to cast a line in the wind.

There is an archery practice range that our teenage grandchildren love. They also enjoy the sand volleyball while the little ones like the playground. We all enjoy a competitive game of horseshoes at the horseshoe pits.

Lovewell State Park has several special events during the year. In July they have fireworks and a sandcastle contest they are both really fun to watch. Check at the ranger’s station to see what if anything is going on during your stay. I like camping and we always have fun when we go and we really enjoy this campground.
