Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, is a place in Kerala, a state of South India. Kochi is one of South India’s most interesting cities. It is a large city and is rather crowded. It is well-developed. It comprises of large buildings.

Kochi has got a coastline. Kochi international airport is 36 kms away from the main city centre of Kochi. The local transport system is excellent. The roads are broad and well-developed.

But the people of Kochi are not very helpful. It is difficult

to ask anybody the way to any place in and around Kochi. Many people are not helpful in showing you the way. The town of Kochi is in three main parts, Fort Kochi, Willingdon island and Ernakulam.

Ernakulam is a crowded area and very noisy. Visitors who are allergic to noisy places could avoid going to Ernakulam. Opposite the jetty at Ernakulam is Bolghatty island and beyond it Vypeen island. There are many historical buildings in Fort Kochi.

This is an interesting site. Then ...

      • there is Mattancherry palace, which was built by Portuguese in 1557. There are also a few museums, worthy of being paid a visit. Willingdon island is one of the most pleasant places in Kochi.

You can take a pleasant walk or an inexpensive ferry ride around the lake. Thus there are many interesting places in Kochi, especially those of historical importance. Hotel rooms are rather costly, and it is difficult to those who are of low budget. I feel that Kochi is a beautiful

place, but Ernakulam in Kochi is not worthy to be visited.

It is too much of a city and a noisy area. You can get good food in the restaurants and food outlets. Travelling in and around Kochi is a pleasure, though it is rather difficult to understand where to go, which bus to catch etc. It is preferable to travel by auto, but one has to be careful about auto fares.

Auto drivers charge high fares, especially from foreigners. Overall, the place is good. I rate it 7 points.
