My husband was put on Metoprolol, a beta blocker, following a heart attack a number of years ago. The intention was for it to help lower his blood pressure. The problem is that it never really lowered his blood pressure, even after his VA doctor added other blood pressure medications. What it did do was lower the potassium levels in his body and potassium is one of the things you need TO have a healthy heart, so it defeats the purpose. Nothing

was ever discussed regarding potential side-effects or drug interactions and his doctors have pretty much continued to just write out a prescription, without any real clarification. Since my husband was, at one point, taking this beta blocker along with prescription cholesterol-lowering drugs, one big adverse side-effect has been a decrease in libido. It just upsets me that so many conventional doctors never consider trying to work with patients on changing their diets and utilizing herbs and other alternative remedies to lower blood pressure, before ...

Despite the fact that Metoprolol and other beta blockers have made no sizable difference in my husband’s blood pressure, they have relegated him to remaining on them. Since we have been going to an alternative healthcare practitioner, however, who got him off of the prescription cholesterol drugs, we are hoping that, eventually, he can be weaned off of Metoprolol. It was only when his holistic practitioner

put him on herbs and supplements, along with chelation therapy, that my husband has seen a big drop in his blood pressure.

Please, go to a doctor who cares enough about you as a patient to allow you to seek other options before putting you on Metoprolol and other beta blockers. There are alternative remedies that work better and don’t have the same risks. Always make certain to question your doctor about ANY prescription drug before letting him or her prescribe it to you.
