  • Kaufman plays tricks with his audience as usual, and the directing by Jonze is almost as interesting as in Being John Malkovich

The much acclaimed american screenwriter Charlie Kaufman here works together with the former music video director Spike Jonze for the second time. It’s a very complicated story in the centre of which Kaufman himself appears (and his evil twin brother!), played

brilliantly by Nicholas Cage. He tries to write an original story that will meet the people’s high expectations, and we follow this story at the same time as Kaufman’s struggle to finish his story. What could be a more brilliant screenplay ...

      • than that? Is it the story he writes or the story about him writing it that is most significant, or perhaps both? Kaufman plays tricks with his audience as usual, and the directing by Jonze is almost as interesting as in
Being John Malkovich. The stories of Kaufman deals with themes where fiction meets reality, and the audience is forced to ask themselves questions about what is really happening. Very intelligent film indeed, but not quite as excellent as Being John Malkovich.
