AMCO Park is truly a country park. The closest town which is the city of Athens is about 20 miles away. AMCO Park is on County Road F and it is a peaceful drive from whatever direction you are coming from. AMCO was designed and built by the American Can Company I assuming in the 1940s. The park is located right on the Rib River. It is not a large river but big enough to take a canoe down. The park is very secluded and pretty. There are picnic tables all over the place. There is a nice beach

for kids to play on and their is a spot about the size of a in ground swimming pool where it is really good swimming. There are lots and lots of large trees around the area. They don’t allow you to camp overnight but the park is excellent for parties and such. There are deadend roads that are close to the area, so if you really want to camp, pull way back on one of these roads and set up and don’t create any problems. There is a vault toilet and water pump. There are miles of hiking trails around the park. These ...

      • are primitive trails so wear good supportive shoes or hiking boots. There is a large bridge that goes over the river and people fish from it. From what I hear they pull catfish and walleye out of the river.

I have gone horseback riding around the area. There are many hardly traveled road around and AMCO has always been a stopping point to rest the horses and let them have a drink. We have even taken the horses into the water to swim and they really like it. The bugs in that area are bad so spray yourself with bugspray before

        getting deep into the woods.

They close the park during the winter, but people do snowmobile down the river and stop off to picnic by AMCO. I forgot to add there are grills for doing hamburgers and such. They usually are never clean so if you are going to grill be prepared to do some cleaning.

At one time they had a bunch of hoodlums visiting the place and raising all sorts of hell. The sherriffs department has taken care of that and you don’t see them there anymore.

For a nice off the beaten path spot to rest, this is the place to go.
