Man oh man, was I disappointed with this movie. There aren’t too many films starring Rosario Dawson that I absolutely hate. But this one—an indie—about her “brutal” rape was just strange. The premise is that she’s an introverted college student who is lured into going to a party with friends.

She is enticed to a young man’s room after he successfully woos her with a few attempts over the upcoming week. She goes on a date with him, and when they are alone

in his room, things go too far. She tells him “no” and he proceeds to rape her.

The description of the rape is “violent”. But I found the scene itself to be really tame. I am not making judgments about what one woman’s version of a “violent” rape is.

But the synopsis makes the movie seem to be something that it’s not. You get the immediate impression that it will in some way have a similar feel as “I Spit On Your Grave. ” The ...

      • viewer is shown a different Rosario (forgot her character’s name) a few months after the rape.

She supposedly goes on a rapid decline in morals, being both promiscuous and risk-taking. She experiments with drugs and then eventually gets hooked up with a shady looking club DJ. Eventually she entices her rapist to go on a date with her.

She pretends that she missed him, and lures him to the bedroom for some fun and games. (SPOILER ALERT!) However, the surprise is on him.

After she gets him tied to the bed, her DJ friend takes a LONNNNG time in violating him, if you know what I mean.

This scene is pretty intense, and brutal. But it’s too little too late. By the end of the movie, I realize that I don’t feel for the main character, and don’t really care what’s happened to her.

Thus, the film ultimately feels like a waste. Too bad. Good actress, good scenario.

But poor screenplay, dialogue, and directing.
