“We own the night” is simply great film with all the right things to become a sensation. This film was directed by James Gray who was also the director of the “The yards”.

The story of this film takes us to Brooklyn in 1988 where two brothers lead two complete different lives from each other. Joe Grusinsky, a role interpreted by Mark Wahlberg, is a New York cop following his father’s foot steps, a role interpreted by Robert Duvall. On the other

hand, the other brother Bobby, a role interpreted by Joaquin Phoenix, manages a nightclub and befriends a lot of drug pushers. The life of both brothers brings them together when the unthinkable happens.

The actors in “We own the night” are simply wonderful; however this is definitely a Joaquin Phoenix film. It comes across that this actor goes that extra mile in order to interpret his role the best he could. It is rumoured that in between takes Joaquin insulted Robert Duvall ...

      • various times in order to interpret his role to perfection. This inturn created a bit of tension on the set, especially since Duvall didn’t much like it. Let’s admit it, if I was in his place, I won’t like it to!

Another interesting aspect of this film is the way it was filmed. There are some interesting shoots especially in most intense moments. I particularly liked the shots in a car chasing scene. On the other hand, I feel that certain blood

scenes were too explicit and could have been easily avoided.

Also interesting to know is that both Wahlberg and Phoenix are producers in this film. This is not the first time that Wahlberg was producer in his film. He also produced his latest film “Shooter”. I think that this is the first time that Phoenix produced one of the films he was involved in.

All in all, a great film that one must watch. “We own the night” is expected to receive a lot of nominations.
