“Catwoman”, released in 2004, was supposed to be a blockbuster, due to the fact that it was based on a comic book superhero and because it starred Halle Berry. It’s fortunate for her that her career was strong enough to survive this movie, because it was way beneath her talents.

Halle Berry plays mousy cosmetics company artist Patience Phillips, who inadvertently overhears voices discussing plans to mass produce and sell tainted cosmetics to the public. When Patience is discovered she runs from the scene, but is murdered by henchmen. Here’s where the superhero part comes in. A cat Patience

had tried to rescue earlier in the day has special powers and it brings her back to the land of the living, except she has been suddenly endowed with catlike reflexes, amazing strength and over-the-top self-confidence. She dons a skin-tight black costume at night, complete with mask, cat ears, claws, tail and whip and begins taking down bad guys.

Meanwhile, the newly empowered Patience starts a relationship with handsome cop Tom Lone(Benjamin Brat), who doesn’t realize that she is Catwoman, whom he and the police have been looking for, as a suspect in her cosmetic company boss’s murder. When Tom finds ...

      • out her true identity, he tries to capture her, to no avail. Tom later finds out that the cosmetic company head’s wife Laurel was the person who murdered him and had pre- Catwoman Patience murdered, so she could get rich selling the contaminated cosmetics to millions of people. Just before Laurel is about to do away with Tom, Catwoman comes on the scene and, after a fight, Laurel falls fatally through a window.

At the end, Catwoman slinks away, forfeiting true love to chase a life of crime fighting and probably hoping for a film sequel that will never come.

        Of course,

most men who saw this movie usually are so distracted by Halle Berri in that form-fitting outfit that they can’t really be objective enough to judge this movie. Being a woman, I have no such distractions.

The script was awful and the acting was third rate. I just can’t imagine what motivated Halle Berry to take this role. I was so totally bored by this picture that it took all the strength I had to watch it from start to finish.

Do not buy this movie or even rent it. You’d be much more entertained by watching a Meow Mix commercial.
