Golden Corral Restaurant used to be one of my favorite “cheap dinner out” restaurants. The location I went to was in Glen Burnie, MD but there are chain locations of Golden Corral throughout the country. Basically Golden Corral is a buffet restaurant. It is a buffet where adults can eat for about $12 each, and children under four years of age eat free.

On my recent visit to the Golden Corral in Glen Burnie, the signs were there that we should have walked out before getting in line. The “manager” who helps seat you after you pay for your buffet looked

like he had not interest in being at the restaurant. This was obvious when my party of seven came through the line to where he was standing. Despite there being four adults and three toddlers in our group, he did not offer high chairs when we were directed to our seats. I had to go back to him after we were seated and ask for help finding some.

The buffet area was a nightmare of children running everywhere despite the signs instructing parents to accompany their children to the buffet. The service was just as bad. Our waitress has a ...

      • job of clearing plates, bringing new plates and replacing sodas. Well she disappeared for over 30 minutes at one point, and also brought us plates that clearly had not been washed as they were covered in cheese sauce.

Other than the chaos at the buffet, the poor management, and the poor service from our waitress, the quality of the food was actually not bad. Golden Corral always has very good fried chicken, delicious rolls, and very good cornbread. They also have decent steak carved at the buffet area. The other buffet food including pot roast, tacos, fried seafood, salad, and

vegetables aren’t the same quality but are still reasonable for a buffet.

The desserts are usually very good if you choose the banana pudding or the chocolate pie. The ice cream station tends to be a mess as kids who once again seem to have no parents at the restaurant, destroy that area and the employees do nothing to manage the destruction.

Overall for a $25 dinner for two adults and one or two children Golden Corral isn’t a bad option. You might want to go at off-times though or find a location that has better management and employees than the Glen Burnie, MD one.
