I saw a 1985 movie this afternoon that I had not seen in years. It starred Harrison Ford and it was called the Witness

This story involves a young Amish woman, who has recently become widowed and her young son. After her husbands death, her fatherinlaw tells her to go to see her sister in Baltimore. She takes a

train along with her sone Samuel and they have a lay over in Philadelphia.

This young boy has never been away from his Amish home in Pennsylvania and he is amazed with everything that he sees including the fountain for water. While they are in the trainstation awaiting the arrival of their transportation to BAltimore Samuel has to use the facilities. He enters the bathroom and is witness to a murder of an undercover narcotic police officer.

Enters John Book, Harrison Ford as the police detective that catches the case. He interviews Samuel and keeps Rachel, Samuels mother and Samuel in the city overnight as witnesses to the murder. While in the police station Samuel ...

identifies the killer as one of the police officers in a police photo. John knows that the boys life is in danger and he attempts to get these quiet people out of harms way. John is shot yet he gets Rachel and Samuel out of Philadelphia and back to Scranton Pa. THere he passes out from the
bullet wound and Rachel takes care of him and nurses him back to health.

There is a difference in his life as a civilian and those of the sheltered non violent Amish . It was a wonderful movie and well worth seeing again. Well done

Can someone tell me who played Samuels mother Anna in this movie? I was impressed with her acting skills and Id like to see more movies made by her.
Moe says :

Samuel’s mother in this movie is actually Rachel Lapp and her role was played by Kelly McGillis. She is definitely a good actress and has appeared in quite a few horror movies in this last decade including “We Are What We Are” “The Innkeepers” (both are definitely good movies).
