We recently bought a home that had a gas log fireplace in it. It was beautiful, but sadly the previous owners said it didn’t work. With all the remodeling we were doing on other things, the function of the fireplace was forgotten. This past cold Illinois winter took a toll on the old furnace, and we started to look at the fireplace as a necessary heat source. Most service men told us, it was probably a regulator that would cost more than the gas log insert

was worth, deeming gas logs as just “throw away” merchandise.

Hey, times are tough, you try to save where you can. So, I found model tags on the unit and started researching it on the Internet. Which led me to Desa, where the unit had originally came from. I emailed them with the model and serial # and they downloaded me the original manual (The unit was ten years old!). I emailed them again, explaining just what the unit was doing, or not doing correctly. Again,

      • they emailed me back immediatly with cleaning instructions, complete with diagrams. Each email they sent me was thoughtful and courteous and always ended with, “Please let us know if this works and we will try something else if it doesn’t”

My last email request did not get answered quite as quickly, so I figured they were tired of me. Not so, two days later I received an email that came as FW:FW:FW: and I was being answered by their gas tech specialist! They had actually forwarded my

email around the company until they had an answer for me.

Now my ten year old fireplace is not only beautiful, it is quite functional on these cold winter nights. Desa heating products such as gas log inserts, and stoves are sold in many local stores, and they have an outlet on their web page at www.desaint.com.

I am sure this old fireplace will eventually need replaced, and I am equally sure that when it does, it will be replaced with one that says Desa on it!
