I held off watching the movie We Are Marshall until I could see it for free on a movie channel. The reason for this is I expected it to be yet another sports movie filled with plenty of clichés and not much else.

I was right on the first part. But, it still turned out to be

      an OK film.

Focusing on the 1970 plane crash that essentially wiped out the Marshall University football program while also killing dozens of community members, the movie does a great job showing the emotion involved with trying to revive the program while players and fans were still grieving. I especially liked the description of how the new ...

      • players faced the hardship of being compared to those who died.

In fact, the fact this move was more of a drama than actual sports film made it easier to ignore the motivational speeches and other typical things you would see in a football movie because there was plenty of depth in terms of overall plot.

        Even though

it has many of the elements of your typical football movie, this is definitely not your typical sports film. This is a drama in the true sense of the word; one in that even the moments of triumph are still overshadowed by tragedy. It’s a great movie to get you thinking and one many should enjoy.
