“The Ordinary Princess” by M. M.

Kaye is a charming fairy tale about a princess who is not beautiful but ordinary, for a change.

When Princess Amy is born and fairies come to bless her with special gifts, one of them

happens to be cranky and gives Amy a most unusual gift of all: Ordinariness.

So, unlike her beautiful sisters, Amy grows up looking plain and simple.

Her hair is not golden but mousy brown, her face is freckled.

      Worried ...

      • that no prince will want to marry her, Amy’s mother, the queen, comes up with different tricks to “beatufy” her daughter and make her act more like a princess, but to no avail.

Amy does not care for pretty

dresses and balls, she’d much rather spend her time walking in the nearby forest.

Her parents won’t give up and devise yet another plot to marry her off.

When Amy learns about it, she decides that she’s had enough and runs away.
