South India is very famous for idly and dosas. Anyone visiting South India will not leave without tasting them. Usualy they are given with green chutney and sambar. But there is another variety which is given only in selected hotels. It is called as chutney powder, also commonly called as gun powder. Most of the South Indian houses prepares it at home and keep

a stock for 2 to 3 months, as idly and dosas are taken as regular breakfasts in South India. It can easily prepared as follows:

Ingredients: Bengal gram dal - 1/2 kg Black gram dal - 1/2 kg Red Cillies - 50 grams seasame seeds - 2 tsp Asafoetida - 1 tsp Salt ...

      • - To taste Groundnut oil - 2 tsp

        Method:

Heat the Pan. Fry bengal gram dal, black gram dal, seasame seeds seperately without oil. Empty it to a big plate so that it cools faster. Pour 2 tsp of oil in the pan and fry the red chillies till you get the fried smell. Empty this into the same

plate and add asafoetida and salt. Mix everything with your hand and allow it to cool. Take a big mixie jar and empty the contents and grind it coarse. Allow it to cool and store it in a air tight container, so that it can used for months together.

Alternatively you can fry everything in Microwave oven. Everyone can prepare this at home and enjoy the breakfast of idly or dosa with chutney powder.
