If you remember your American History the Chisholm Trail was used to drive millions of Texas Longhorns from Kansas through Oklahoma to Texas during the 1860’s and the 1870’s.

The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, OK is near Hwy 81, approximately 80 miles south of Oklahoma City. On the lawn outside the center a large bronze monument is a reminder of the area’s past. It is dedicated to the people who drove the Texas Longhorns up the Chisholm

Trail. This monument stands about 15 feet high and 35 feet across, it is very impressive.

Inside the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center a great educational experience greeted us. They have hands-on exhibits, wildlife displays, collections of artifacts and western memorabilia. While we were visiting there was a group of children there also and we enjoyed watching their reactions to all the things in this wonderful museum.

If you are a fan of the old west The Garis ...

      • Gallery is an art gallery inside the center with a variety of western art. They have bronze statues, paintings and drawing all pertaining to the old west theme. If you are a artist or a history buff you will love this place!

Chisholm Trail Experience Theater is a wonderful part of the center. The Chisholm Grail Experience is a movie presented on a huge wide screen, the seating is great, there is no bad seat in the theater.

It movie gave us a better understanding of the daily lifestyle these people endured along the Chisholm Trail. The movie, the surround sound and the special effects are a experience in itself.

The staff were all knowledgeable, helpful and courteous when we asked questions. This is a family friendly place that’s appropriate for your whole family or a church youth group, a scout troop or a school classroom. This is by far the most enjoyable museum I’ve ever been to.
