I really really wanted to like this movie. When I heard that John Singleton was making another movie, I thought that it was really going to be good. The film is based on a Latin couple living in the Bronx in 1985.

The husband is a gangster drug dealer. And his

wife is a pregnant, educated woman.

Of course, he runs into troubles during his shifty dealings, and he catches several hot bullets about the chest and groin. His son is born that very night.

never occurred. In a nutshell, this film is missing lots of things.

There are several inconsistencies that really make the story seem unauthentic. For instance, the wardrobe that was supposed to the 1980’s looked a little too ‘modern’ for the time period.

The actors and extras looked too much like

models. And overall, the set design was too ’slick’ for the gritty content.

I really felt like the ending was silly. And by the time the film was over, I wondered why it was even made.

Essentially, ‘Illegal Tender’ could have been made into an adult ‘After School Special’ against the war on drugs.
