Allardt is a small town in Tennessee that is located off of highway 52. They don’t have a single red light in the town because it is that small. They do have a grocery store and two gas stations, a school, a church and post office. There is a small city park across from the elementary school.

That is where they host their famous pumpkin festival. The first weekend of October every year this quite little town becomes overwhelmed with people swarming everywhere. The population of Allardt is around 450 but when the pumpkin festival comes here there is more than ten thousand.

They have venders set up all along the main street of town

and in the city park. They host the pumpkin weigh in next to the Allardt Food Mart and the beauty pageant and talent show are held in front of the city hall building. They have a car show on the lot at the corner of the four way intersection as you come into town.

This is one of the major revenue events for Allardt every year. The rest of the year this town is a quite relaxing place to visit. It is typical of most southern towns where everyone’s lifestyle slows down.

People wave back when you throw your hand up as you drive through this sleepy little area. Neighbors pitch in to help the elderly ...

      • or anyone in need. It is a great place to raise kids or retire.

Best of all land in the area is more reasonably priced than other areas. I’m guessing that is because it is kind of out in the boonies. There are farms everywhere you look but not much in the way of factories other than textiles.

The nearest town with a Wal-Mart is Jamestown which is about ten miles away. The closest mall is in Crossville which is thirty five miles south. We are about thirty miles from Kentucky and although we are in the central time zone it is only five or ten miles to the eastern time line from here.

Allardt is owned by the Gernt family, why even the mayor is a Gernt. From Allardt it is not but a hop skip and jump to get to the Big South Fork Recreation Area. The Big South Fork Recreation area is a great place to hunt, fish or hike.

It stretches all the way up into Kentucky. My son attends a boy scout troop that meets at the Allardt Presbyterian Church. The people at the church are really super nice people and very supportive of the troop.

The boy scout troop has been in Allardt for 66 years. That is a long time for a troop to be supported by a community that small.
