  • It is very funny, and some of it is very interesting, and I am glad that it has been done, however to me Cerebus Volume 1 remains the better book
  • He certainly couldn't have kept on going on that track forever, and High Society is still one of the best graphic novels ever written, but I think that the first volume was more readable (and re-readable)
  • One of the pleasures of this particular volume, though, is the return of Julius, one of the best characters that Dave Sim would ever create

High Society is the second volume of Dave Sim’s Cerebus series. In some ways it is markedly different from the first, in that it is all a self-contained, single story (which stretches over 30 issues).

It is also much more political than the first volume (although the first volume had its moments of politic itself).

      Myself I find

that High Society is much sturdier and holds better together than the first volume.

Sim certainly knew exactly what he wanted to do when he started out on this story, and he does it well.

However, there is still a certain charm to the first book which just doesn’t make it in here.

      It is very ...

If you don’t know who Julius is, check out the book for yourself, he is one of the best comic characters in the history of the medium, bar none.
