  • I mean, I know Gaiman is a comic book writer, and there is a certain style that goes with comic books, but do we really need to hear every character in the movie say Praise Odin or Odin willing
  • In fact, while I had always enjoyed the 13th Warrior, my opinion of the movie greatly improved after seeing the dribble that was this most recent Beowulf adaptation
  • Yes, the animation was quite good, but the destruction of the story was so horrendous as to completely destroy the cinematic experience

I went into Beowulf with some high expectations. Sure, Angelina Jolie was in it (someone I can’t stand), but the previews looked pretty good, the animation truly incredible and I have always been a fan of the Beowulf story. What could be better than seeing Beowulf beautifully animated in 3D?

A whole lot, actually. Neil Gaiman wrote the script, an author whose work I

usually quite enjoy. What he did to the story of Beowulf, however, was just horrible. I don’t know how someone could make such a simple and time-honored story so absolutely ridiculous, but Gaiman was able to do it. And the dialogue! I mean, I know Gaiman is a comic book writer, and there is a certain style that goes with comic books,

      • but do we really need to hear every character in the movie say “Praise Odin” or “Odin willing”? It really gets to be a bit much.

I won’t go into the details of just how completely Mr. Gaiman destroyed the story of Beowulf, but I will have to say it is one of the most horrible movies I have ever seen. While I was watching

I actually was telling myself that the 13th Warrior was a better movie adaptation of Beowulf! In fact, while I had always enjoyed the 13th Warrior, my opinion of the movie greatly improved after seeing the dribble that was this most recent Beowulf adaptation. Yes, the animation was quite good, but the destruction of the story was so horrendous as to completely destroy the cinematic experience.
