For a comedy film, the movie Were No Angels really doesnt produce many laughs.

Robert DeNiro and Sean Penn put in a valiant effort, but the weak script and the even weaker concept really doesnt work. You can only make so many jokes at the expense of the church without crossing

      some line and offending someone.

Penn and DeNiro play two escaped convicts who pose as monks while they try to find a way to cross the Canadian border. This, in itself, might be a believable concept except they are mistaken for two famous priests even though picture on the back of the ...

      • book they supposedly wrote looks nothing like them (something one of the other monks is quick to mention). And, nobody notices they cant speak Latin either.

The movie also has too many depressing sub-plots to it, such as a woman who is working hard and even prostituting herself to help her sick

daughter that take away from any comedy that might come from a story like this. Basically, its the same plot as Sister Act only the latter did a much better job at it.

This is a movie I would recommend avoiding. It’s just suspenseful enough to keep you at the edge of your seat.
