      There are several websites that report the most current celebrity news, but few of them match the aggressive tenacity of TMZ.com. TMZ.com joins together Telepictures Productions and AOL to form one of the most visited and influential entertainment sites on the web.

      It is clearly tabloid-type journalism, kind of like “The National Enquirer” on steroids. They pretty much go after stories on their own, but depend upon incriminating photographs and videos from “contributors” to draw the most attention. The true


      mark of how important TMZ.com has become is that other media outlets come to them to get updates on celebrity scandals. You can often tune into Fox News or CNN and see TMZ managing editor -Harvey Levin- dishing the dirt on the rich and famous.

      TMZ.com sometimes borders on the cruel and vicious side. They catch stars at their most vulnerable moments. For instance, TMZ.com publishes photos of celebs at their worst, such as being out with no makeup on, acting raucously at ...

Still, it is that very air of mercilessness that gets millions of hits to their website daily and puts them at the top of their game.

        People come there in droves, either out of curiosity or out of a fascination to find out what the famous are up to. Maybe it even gives

        us “regular” individuals a sense of satisfaction to know that the celebrities we envy are imperfect and, in many cases, troubled and unhappy.

        Much as I hate to admit it, TMZ.com is the first place I think of whenever I hear about the most recent entertainment news item. I may hear it announced on CNN, but I get online and go to TMZ.com for details.

        Like many others, I am both fascinated and repulsed by this site, which is likely why I find myself so enticed by it.
