“The Prince and the Pauper” by Mark Twain was one of my favorite stories when I was a kid, and it still remains so. The book tells about two boys of the same age who are not related and yet look

amazingly alike, so much so that they can pass for one another.

One of them is Tom Canty, a poor street boy abused by his drunken father.

The other is Prince Edward, the heir to the British throne.

      One day Tom ...

      • and Prince Edward meet and, seeing that they look like twins, decide to change clothes and try out each other’s life.

Tom’s always wanted to get out of poverty.

Edward’s always wanted to experience the simple live unrestrained by court protocol.

        Here’s a perfect chance.

They plan just to have some fun and then switch back to their real identities, but things go wrong.

Wearing his rags, Edward is not allowed back into the palace, and Tom is stuck there, mistaken for the prince.
