It took me a while to see this one because I don’t tend to watch “Oscar” films until they have been released for a little while. In any event, this was a good film, but not as good as I thought it would be.

      Of course there are the

lush, yet brutal landscape scenes in Sierra Leone.

But I was looking for a little more of an authentic representation of familial life in that area.

Anyway, Leonardo DiCaprio offered up an interesting accent.

I would say that he nailed it.

      But I am a bit unsure ...

      • how non-black people talk in that region.

For some reason though, it seemed a little forced.

Furthermore, I am tired of seeing films in which the background landscape is filled with black people, but the stars (who are non-black) end up being the heroes.

        In this case,

Djimon Hounsou ended up being the hero.

But only because DiCaprio’s character paved the way for him.

In other words, a non-black person saves the day in a country full of Africans.

It’s a little unrealistic, and inappropriately altruistic.

But sure, it was a good film.
