One of the most beautiful and inspiring tourist attractions in Dartmouth is the Peace Pavilion along the Dartmouth waterfront. Designed in 1989 by a group of high school students this glassed in display hosts rocks, bricks and parts of buildings from around the world.

Characterized by steel triangle beams that stand over fifteen feet in the

air, the Peace Pavilion can be seen from Halifax side of the city. When tourists and commuters cross the Halifax Harbour on the ferry, one of the first things you see is the Pavilion, and it is the subject of much conversation.

On either side of the stone beams are triangular shaped pieces of rock. From ...

      • a distance it looks like two pyramids, but when I walk on the Dartmouth waterfront and enter the Pavilion I can see that one triangle houses an amphitheatre where tourists cans sit on stone steps, eat lunch, rest while looking at the rock display held behind sheet glass in the other triangle.

        There are rocks from

Belize, Cuba, and in fact over fifty different countries. The real staring attraction is a large two-foot piece of the Berlin wall complete with graffiti and steel wires poking through. This always takes my breath away, and I believe the concept of the Peace Pavilions designed to unite us, as one world is a truly great idea.
