This is truly a magnificent movie, one of the best to be put out by the Disney people in many years. A powerful tale of family and greed, deception and betrayal, set against the backdrop of the African Savannah. Once again, Disney falls back upon its tried and true theme of using animals to tell this story, and once again, it works.

      Inevitable comparisons, of course, are

made between The Lion King and Bambi. It deals with the same issues: the continuity of life (as sung in the song The Circle of Life), and the importance of the family, something that is very important to me. However, even though Bambi dealt with an extremely powerful moment the death of Bambi’s mother at the hand of Man The Lion King deals with ...

      • similar issues in a much more tougher and realistic way. Whereas Disney didn’t dwell on the murderous act against Bambi’s mother, this time, when Simba’s father is stampeded to death, we are kept right in the midst, letting the horror sink in.

The opening sequence is so powerful and visually stunning that I feel it encapsulates the underlying message of the movie, that through the family unit,

life will continue in its unending round.

All of the elements came together, just right for this film writing, acting, animation, and the music. The interesting switch back from the intensity and drama of the first part, to the sidesplitting comedy of the middle, centering upon Timon and Pumbaa, and back to the mysticism and drama of the end, worked beautifully and made for an entirely engaging experience.
