With great power comes great responsibility. With great movies comes greater ones. This is how I feel about the first Spiderman. I believe this movie moved the caliber of comic book-to-movie projects up a notch.

This movie showed that we can have great comic book movies with great characters and plots, and still remain true to the comic book origins of the story.

      I’m not sure if Tobey

Maguire was Peter Parker to me. He seemed too young and timid. True, Parker is in college, but he seemed like a younger boy. But there were moments in the movie where I feel this personality worked to his favor. The contrast made Spiderman that much greater. The scenes when he discovered his body to be more muscular, his vision clearer, these are just a couple ...

This served another purpose. Ultimately, Peter must struggle with his new identity, and with the guilt he carries with him about being indirectly responsible for his Uncle Ben’s death. I thought the razor’s edge he walked between wantin to play the role of the hero, as shown in the montage of learning to spin his web, and wanting to just be

plain old Peter Parker, like whenever he was around Mary Jane, was masterfully written and acted.

The supporting cast, notably J. Jonah Jameson and Norman Osborn, played by J K Simmons and Willem Dafoe, respectively, and Kirsten Dunst and James Franco as Mary Jane Watson and Norman’s son Harry, completed the job of making this the first, and best, of the current generation of superhero movies. A must see.
