If you can’t afford Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, you can always download a copy of The GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program). This software is free, easy to use, and very flexible. If you need to edit photos or graphics, but don’t have the money for the pricey software, The GIMP is a great way to go.

The GIMP has a layout that is somewhat like Paint Shop Pro, but also somewhat like Photoshop. I was accustomed to the layout and locations of all the

important features within twenty or thirty minutes. After a few weeks of using The GIMP, I became very familiar with the functions and features. Finding the menus and tools that I want is no more difficult than finding what I want in my beloved Windows XP operating system.

This software will let you do every basic thing that you could possibly want to do to a photograph or image. You can crop and rotate, add text and apply filters. You can work with multiple layers ...

      • and re-size the entire image. You can save in different file formats. The odds are good that, if you need your image editor to do highly-advanced things, you’re probably a professional (or a student on his or her way to becoming a pro) and therefore have access to the other, pricey software.

But if you’re just trying to spice up your personal Web site with graphics, touch up your digital pictures, or cut and paste an enemy’s ugly head onto a stranger’s body, The GIMP

        is perfect for you.

The only real problem with The GIMP is the fact that different releases have their own little bugs and problems. One version, for example, cannot add colored text. You get black or white, but that’s it. In later releases, the developers fixed that problem. I have my green, red, et cetera text again. If the version that you download has a problem, try an earlier release, or visit the developer’s Web site to see if the team has created a patch.
