Stories or movies from Old California are dear to my heart, being raised in Southern California through my childhood. I think that if a double-feature were in order, this movie should be coupled with The Three Amigos. The comedy is similar.

The comedic strength in this movie stems from

brilliant whiting and acting. George Hamilton is excellent as the dashing, swave Don Diego, and his effeminate twin brother, Ramon, now known as Bunny Wigglesworth. Ron Leibman as the Alcalde is a great, neurotic dictator. The two enemies square off with perfect one-liners. At one point, during a masked ...

      • ball, Zorro and the Alcalde are dueling. Zorro has tossed a few insults at the Alcalde, who responds, regarding Zorro’s sword, ‘Is your [sword] as sharp as your tongue?’ To which Zorro, not to be outdone by this voice of authority, answers, ‘Is yours as dull as your
        wit?’

These types of one-liners, the melodramatic characters and situation, create a warm atmosphere of fun and enjoyment. The musical score appears to have a reused score from an older film, but it fits this movie perfectly.

Watch this film whenever you are feeling angry or down. It’s a good cure.
