The greatest japanese director of all time is Akira Kurosawa if you ask me. Dersu Uzala was his second color film, made in Russia when the master director was out of money and needed to look for investors abroad.

The story is about some russian soldiers with a captain as their

leader and how they encounter an old mongolian man in the woods.

His name is Dersu Uzala, and he is a great help for these soldiers as he knows the forest like his own pocket.

The captain quickly takes a liking to Dersu and becomes his dear friend.

      When the captain ...

      • offers to take Dersu with him to his family in a russian town, Dersu declines and says his home is in the forest.

A very, very moving story unfolds as the captain misses Dersu a lot when he’s away from him.

The captain wants to help Dersu and finally the old

        mongolian agrees to join him.

However, the story of Dersu Uzala ends in a very tragic way.

This is probably the most heartbreaking film I’ve ever seen.

It feels so close to life and so wise I nearly couldn’t breath.

A remarkable cinematic achievement that puts Kurosawa among the greatest filmmakers ever.
