One of Ingmar Bergman’s less known films from the late 50s includes most of his regular acting squad with Max von Sydow, Bibi Andersson and Erland Josephsson in the frontline in a story about a magician

and his helpers travelling around the country to entertain rich people. When he reaches doctor Vergerus mansion something strange happens and the magician has to face himself. This is one of my favorite Bergman works along ...

      • with Wild Strawberries, Persona and Scenes from a Marriage. The Magician manages to reach into the soul of a human being in a most convincing, yet never exaggerated, way. The actors are of course very important
in Bergman’s films, but the way he uses the moving images to portrait his own vision is simply a remarkable talent by Bergman. This film can be watched over and over. It will always feel as refreshing.
