An experimental and surreal film from the same director who made Shadow of the vampire, the film about the chaotic way Nosferatu was created back in the 1920s. Begotten doesn’t have a definable structure or narrative.

As matter of fact it doesn’t even have any dialogue. It’s all about the images and the moods the thoughts they provoke among the audience. In this way, Begotten is very similar to experimental cinema artist ...

      • Stan Brakhage, but I’d say the film has more similarities to Eraserhead by David Lynch. Begotten is a very difficult film to sit through, in the same way as Prospero\’s Books is, because there is no
real story or no real characters to develop any feelings for. I admit the images are stunning here, but there has to be something beneath the images too, and that is not the case here in my opinion.
