The Pilot G-2 pen is awesome, and is the #1 selling gel pen in the United States, but, as with any pen, it has its downfalls.

I’m having a hard time finding the perfect pen, but the G-2 was the closest to it for the longest time.

SMOOTHNESS The overall smoothness of the G-2 pen is incredible. This really all depends on the size of the ink refills you get, but the average (.7) is awesomely smooth. The main feature of this pen is how smoothly it writes. It writes smoother

than most water-based pens, and water-based pens are supposed to be the smoothest; smoother than gel-based pens.

INK SUPPLY The ink supply of this pen is ok… It lasts for a semi-long time. It could be improved, but since it lays so much ink down on the paper, you must accept the fact that the ink’s going to run out relatively fast. Ink refills and pen replacements are very easy to find, however, since it’s such a well-selling gel pen.

EASY TO FIND It’s very easy to find refills or pen replacements ...

      • for the G-2, because everyone buys it, more stores are interested in selling them. Walgreens, Meijers, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, etc. All will probably sell G-2 pens and/or refills.

COLORS There are over 10 different colors of the G-2 pen, and are usually bought in packs of 10. I can’t even name all of the colors that there are, but it’s awesome that Pilot makes so many different colors of inks and pen bases for one pen.

MINI Pilot also makes the G-2 mini, which still falls under the G-2 category.

It’s the same thing as the G-2, it just is about 2/3 the size of the original. It’s difficult to write with, less ink supply, and impossible to find more ink. Pretty useless overall.

OVERALL SATISFACTION Overall, I’m very satisfied with this pen. It writes very smooth, is easy to find, has a ton of colors, and gets decent ink usage. The only downfall is the fact that all gel pens have their days…. They’ll completely stop working before the ink is out sometimes, which gets really annoying. I would recommend buying this pen to anyone interested in smooth, persistent writing.
