PBS has some of the most interesting shows on TV in our area. One of my favorite ones, they aired in 2002 was “Pioneer Quest: A Year in The Real West”.

It was a Canadian version of Frontier House.

My husband says I\’m obsessed with shows of this type but I don’t care.

      I just

wish they would show it over and over again.

Pioneer Quest featured two couples that they sent out to start a homestead in Canada to live off the land live like the old days for a whole year.

You can see how they struggled to make ends meet and the daunting endless chores they endured ...

      • during their quest.

What made it stand apart from Frontier House was that they stayed all winter in their homesteads.

Braving the Canadian winter’s freezing temperatures.

It showed how they drove their wagon pulled by animals to town for the occasional supplies and how they had to knock off the snow from the wheels

        to keep the wagon moving.

The participants of this show actually got fifty thousand dollars each when they completed their contracts where the Frontier House participants only got enough of an allowance to maintain their homes while they were gone.

It makes you wonder how you might sign up to particpate for the next one.
