I was introduced to Sugar Bush Springs Winery about 3 years ago, completely by accident. This is really a cool winery in that it is a home based operation. The winery is extremely clean - there is not a speck dirt or even dust anywhere. The bottles are uniquely displayed according to grape and year. The way they have this organized it just really cool, it looks like an evergreen forest. Maybe a bit cluttered, but it really works because it encourages you to look. The bottle label is a match to the forest motif in the store. The colors of the label are elegant and easy to

read. The shrink caps even have the evergreen motif on it.

The winery has home grown fruit wines and grape wines. One of my favorite wines is the red raspberry. You could swear you were eating a raspberry. That is how strong the flavor is. The alcohol content is usually about 14%. So, the wine is not for the faint of heart. If you have drank 1 bottle by yourself, you may as well go to bed. Another one that I like is the plum and the honey and plum combination. The plum is so rich and smooth - it just slides right down.

      The batches ...

      • are made in volumes of 50 - 100 gallons, so each batch is unique. You can definitely tell of the different varieties even in the plum wine. You can see the fingers of the wine especially with the plum wine. When you swirl the plum wine the aroma coming from the wine is extraordinary! Just love it.

The people at the winery also teach you how to taste wine. There usually aren’t many people in the winery so they can take the time to teach your about wine tasting. I have learned alot there. They have even discussed how they layer or combine different flavors to make a new

wine. It was just like being a kid, so much fun.

The actual winery is held at a stable temperature for the wines benefit and so is the humidity. When starting the wines I have seen them put something akin to a electric blanket around the little vats to keep them warm and fermenting.

The people who work at the winery are always cordial and helpful. They teach and give samples of the wine. To tell the truth, some of the combinations were kind of odd and I wouldn’t have trided them except for being able to sample them. The prices aren’t bad either. All I can say is Yum, Yum!!!
