This movie is mainly about boxing; I do not particularly like boxing, but I do like this movie, very much. While bloody fighting scenes still made me cringe, I was completely blown away by the beautiful family relationship of the main character, Jim (a boxer nicknamed Cinderella Man).

Jim has a loving wife, Mae, who

strongly supports him in everything he does, even though she dislikes his boxing career and cannot bring herself to attend the fights.

Jim and Mae also have three children, with whom they refuse to part when things get very difficult financially (the time frame of the story is Depression) and there is an option of ...

      • sending the kids away to live with wealthier relatives.

Jim and Mae are always there for each other; he values her and compliments her, publicly and in private.

They both work hard to raise their children right, to instill the right values.

When Jim’s son steals a sausage, Jim makes him go back to the

        store and return it.

He explains that stealing is wrong, even if you are hungry.

The children adore their father, he is their hero, and for a good reason.

It is a rare treat to see such a great example of family in a movie these days.

Just for that, I give the movie 10 stars.
