The story takes place in the last century London. Two talented stage magicians, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) become rivals, competitors, and eventually enemies.

It all starts with Angier’s wife dying onstage when a dangerous magic trick goes wrong.

      Angier blames Borden for it.

From that point, the two begin to wage war, sabotaging each other’s shows,

trying to steal each other’s secrets, and so on.

Both become increasingly obsessed with this vengeful competition.

Their plotting against each other becomes more elaborate, dangerous - deadly.

Blood is spilled; several murders committed.

Is there a limit to their hate? Is there going to be a winner?

The Prestige is definitely not for everyone.

Do not assume that if you like ...

      • magic tricks, you are automatically going to enjoy it.

This movie is a combination of mystery, drama, suspense on the verge of horror (tension builds as you wonder who’s going to die next and how), and even science fiction.

It is a story about magic illusions, yes.

It is also a story of competition and revenge gone too far.

        I enjoyed

following the plot twists and trying to unriddle the illusions; I also liked the powerful performance of the leading actors, as well as my favorite Michael Caine who plays a secondary part in the movie (bringing it out to match the leading ones, as usual).

I did not quite like the dark side of the story, but I guess the plot required it.
