      Master And Commander; The Far Side of the World is a movie based on the novels of Patrick O’Brian. The major plot is based on the novel “The Far Side of the World”, although additional material is taken from other O’Brian books including Master and Commander and HMS Surprise. Patrick O’Brian

      created a very popular set of novels based on the characters of Captain Jack Aubrey and his friend, Stephen Maturin.

      • audience, as an historically realistic portrayal of life aboard a British naval vessel during the Napoleonic Wars. The movie is not the Pirates of the Caribbean, with the cartoonish levels of fantasy. It is definitely a treat for fans of O’Brian, or of the Horatio Hornblower novels.

        The cinematography is

        excellent, the plot motors along, and there is a constant level of suspense as to what will happen next. The scenes of wildlife in the Galapagos Islands make me want to visit that magical place.

        This is a very male movie, with little, other than Russell Crowe, that may appeal to female viewers.
