For some time, I have been pretty fed up with the “horror” movies coming out. But I decided to take a chance on both Samuel L.

Jackson and John Cusack, since they are both favorite actors of mine.

At any rate, the story is fairly simple: Cusack portrays a writer who’s focus over the years has

      been debunking haunted house stories.

He ends up at the fictional Dolphin Hotel to stay in room 1408–a room notorious for its paranormal activity.

      In fact, hotel manager Mr.

Olin (Samuel Jackson) has advised Mike (Cusack) that the room has been responsible for a few deaths.

Of course Mike does not believe him, and insists ...

      • that he stay in that room.

That is when all hell breaks loose.

Don’t expect tons and tons of graphic effects and huge jumps.

        There are the requisite scares.

But viewers will be more drawn into the relationship that Mike has with the room itself.

The point is that the viewer is supposed

to experience the frustration (with not being able to leave the room) along with the fear of wondering what’s in the room with Mike.

The ending is satisfactory, and sort of plays on the White Noise theory (EVP’s).

But it doesn’t go overboard, which is what ultimately made me believe that this was a pretty good movie.
