I don’t think I was fully prepared for what a wonderful film this would be. Set in ancient Mayan times, this film directed by Mel Gibson follows a tribe of Mayans who are in fight for their very existence when a neighboring tribe destroys their village

and then takes some of them captive for sacrifice.

The story focuses primarily on main character, “Jaguar Paw”–who is successful in outwitting the tribe on several occasions.

Viewers watch as he utilizes his intimate connection to the jungle (along with his wits and passion) to ...

      • survive and save his family, who has been hiding in a nearby well for several hours.

Viewers also see the strength that his wife possesses, as she waits–pregnant with their toddler child for help to arrive.

The movie has so many different types of

cinematic layers that you should really see it more than once in order to fully appreciate all the nuances.

There are lots of sub-stories and hidden messages to appreciate and enjoy.

Once again, Mel Gibson has lent his expertise in directing to this wonderful piece of cinema.
