      This anti-western by inventive Hollywood filmmaker Nicholas Ray, tells the story of a western hero called Johnny “Guitar” Logan, who much rather plays music instead of shooting down people with guns. The storyline and narrative is daring and unusual for the time.

      Johnny Guitar was made in the 1950s when the western genre was soon to loose its popularity in Hollywood, and that is very apparent in this film. The spectacular duels were abandoned for a much more pacifistic way of thinking and Nicholas ...

      • Ray was the only director who really put that to life. Of course, the violent western was later revived in the most excellent way by Sergio Leone in the 60s, but the american western had seen its best days when Johnny Guitar
        was made. One of the best westerns stylistically in my opinion, because it has its own look. One shall not forget the great John Ford before all of this of course, but Johnny Guitar is underrated in cinema history and deserves more credit.
