The War of the Flowers by Tad Williams is kind of unique among his novels in that it is a standalone - not part of a larger series. However, it is still a remarkable work of fantasy.

Williams has a talent for creating new and fascinating worlds, without resorting to the tired cliches that populate too much of todays fantasy

      novels.

Why can’t more authors realize that what made Tolkien so special was that he created so much, and developed the current form elves, goblins and orcs.

Fantasy should not be restricted to these forms alone - a lesson that Williams has learned well.

The War of the Shadows has a somewhat conventional plot - at least for a ...

      • fantasy novel.

The main character Theo Vilmos, lives in modern day San Francisco.

However, he is transported to a magical fairy land in order to escape an apparition that is chasing him.

Where this becomes special is in the development of this fairy land.

The fairies are on the throes of an industrial revolution, has individual fairies

are drained of their magic in order to power the increasingly sophisticated Fairy world.

There are different classes of Faires, but the highest are the Flower Lords - the nobility of the Fairies.

The War of the Flowers is an excellent novel - one that held my attention continuously until I could finish it.

        I highly recommend this book.

    Andrew Leither says :

I love fantasy novels. The War of the Flowers by Tad Williams. It’s a catchy name and title and if I was at the book store staring at it, I’d snatch it up but I always read synopsis of novels before I purchase any book.
