  • I believe you actually have to go overseas (dont worry it doesnt sound as dramatic as that you just take a ferry or the KCR, which is the subway)

Ani-Com is a convention that is held yearly in Hong Kong in the summer (last year when I went, it was at the beginning of august but this year it was end of july so times vary) that is much like an anime convention but this is actually more geared towards comics and such however many people go because it is the closest thing to an anime convention that the north Americans host over a dozen a year but there are none in Hong kong (or close to none). It is held at the convention place in hong kong called the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center. It is pretty easy to get there as long as you just follow the signs and stuff. You can take the MTR first and get off and then transfer using a bus. It is located in

a place called Wan Chai or Wan Jai. I believe you actually have to go overseas (dont worry it doesnt sound as dramatic as that you just take a ferry or the KCR, which is the subway). Anyhow because this convention is for games and anime the Hong Kong game show/fair also hosts their events with this event too, since they are closely related. So you get a lot of game booths and people promoting their games by giving out free things, or trying to lure you into trying their games. Same with the comics. I have to say at this point that this convention is really for comics, thus its really a BOOK FAIR for comics so you may see more books than you see say, anime. So dont be disappointed.

What I AM disappointed with is that there is ...

      • a lack of cosplayers. I know I already stated that this convention is not primarily for cosplayers but I cant help to be disappointed since there are already not a lot of conventions in HK. However, most cosplayers that DO cosplay do a very nice job. In fact too nice. If the cosplayer happens to be female, the male population will swarm around her trying to get pictures. Now I kind of understand why people dont want to cosplay in hong kong you never get to WALK anywhere because a crowd is ALWAYS constantly trying to take a picture of you. It is insane. And the funny thing is theyre all guys, and the person being taken picture of is always a girl. Go figure?

That being said, it is so crowded around a cosplayer sometimes you cant even walk. I guess if

you are there for the festival, you wouldnt want to cosplay because how are you going to be able to shop?

Despite all this, it is still a very fun event to go to but I dont think the air conditioning is up enough because it is always boiling in there, with the amount of people in there and going out, etc. The food prices there are always jacked up too so just go to the streets and find a nice restaurant instead.

Oh i forgot to say - you have to buy tickets first - don’t bother tyring to pay at the door - it is time consuming and tickets may run out. Plus you have to wait in line for hours which is kind of… a waste of time. You can pick these tickets up at the convenience store or locations that they announce.
