  • And yes if you are one of those who cannot take long distance travelling specially on winding upward streches, have vomittings, faintness etc - then please keep some medicine handy as you will definitely need it during your travel to this place

India is quite famous as hot tourist destination in the west for places like Goa, Kerela, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. But very few western tourists actually know about the tourist hamlets of the northern hilly regions based in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Manali is one such destination of Himachal Pradesh with picturesque hilly locales, serene beauty and an old world charm. With around 15 - 18 hrs drive from Delhi (around 10-12hrs from

Ambala - the closest railway destination), this place of beauty was once the preffered summer retreat for the British. You can still see this old world charm in Manali with quaint houses, sloping roofs and victorian architechture. The club house of Manali is a perfect example of Indo-British Architechture.

We visited Manali in the month of May when the snow cover of the region had reduced drastically so much so that we had to drive ...

      • to a place called Midhi (4-5hrs upwards) on a narrow winding trail to see a few km spread of snow with tourists rampaging on it like ants. Best time to visit this location is from November to April if you really want to see Manali city covered under snow.

Exp. was not so good at Midhi as the road is quite narrow and with hoards of vehicle clambering to reach the place in time (heavy thundershowers

occur in the afternoon so the best time to visit is early morning, start as early as 5am from your hotel), we were stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours till the army cleared the road.

And yes if you are one of those who cannot take long distance travelling specially on winding upward streches, have vomittings, faintness etc - then please keep some medicine handy as you will definitely need it during your travel to this place.
