Melanie Martin Goes Dutch” is a YA novel by Carol Weston. It is a wonderful, diary format book. This book is great for preteen and younger teenage girls, and is a sequel to “Melanie Martin Speaks her Mind”, I think.

      In this book, Melanie’s family

goes to the Netherlands because her mom has won a grant to study art. Melanie is especially looking forward to it, because her best friend Cecily is coming along.

This causes friction because to Melanie, it seems like Cecily is being perfect and well behaved ...

      • and nice to her brother, which she is, and it bothers Melanie because she thinks Cecily is showing her up, and despite the fact that she is trying to be good, nobody seems to notice, while praise and attention seem to be paid to
Cecily. I think everyone can empathize with this.

This book flows very well, and really does stay well on track with the plot and subject, without moralizing or being annoyingly repetitive. It’s a very satisfying read. It’s a fun book that kids I know have enjoyed.
