The cult declared film from the early 1930s by Tod Browning was before its time with the story it tells. A circus companionship with “freaks” travels around together.

The so called freaks are people

with strange looks, everything from midgets to people with small heads.

These people were authentic, and Tod Browning shows them just as they are, without moralising.

The freaks aren’t treated as real people and ...

      • not taken seriously, not even the ones that are as intelligent as an ordinary person.

A man with a disease that makes him look and talk like a child is tormented for with his

feelings and the film mostly deals with that.

A very moving and honest film, but I can’t understand where the “horror” is in this film.

It’s a solid drama about human beings with strange appearance.
