      Mario Bava’s breakthrough picture has an opening scene that astounded a whole generation of filmmakers. It is so filled with mood and gothic beauty, but at the same time

      frightening in its graphical violence.

      The story here is about a witch waking up from her slumber in 1700th century Italy, and with hear comes death.

      a film like this you don’t take much notice to that.

      Mario Bava was so gifted in the way he created the moods with haunting images, that you think

      of nothing else.

      I have to admit though, that the film loses a lot of its strength in the latter part of it.

      Still a film with great historical importance and influential imagery.
