  • This is one of Terry Pratchett's earlier Discworld books, and I think is one of the first that the grey floating auditors have a major role (they also appear in Thief of Time, where they are again part of the inciting incident in the plot) and one of several books about the incarnation of Death
  • I especially enjoyed some of the jokes about the shopping carts, as well as the wannabe vampires - who are actually vampires, but take the idea of it very seriously

and one of several books about the incarnation of Death. In this book, Death is ‘fired’ by the auditors, who leave the world without a Death, trusting that people’s beliefs will simply create a new death.

However, in the meantime, chaos ensues with people who ...

      • have died but are still, oddly, alive.

And other strange and funny events occur.

I especially enjoyed some of the jokes about the shopping carts, as well as the wannabe vampires - who are actually vampires, but take the idea of it very seriously.

        Death himself

realises he doesn’t have long to live, and sets out to really live it.

        First, he gets a job.

I liked the reference to how Death does his job in that Bill Door cuts the corn one stalk at a time, and intensely dislikes the combination harvester.
