  • I think this is something we should all appreciate
  • Also a good news for humans is that zebrafish are not rare, in fact they're quite in a good supply so that if this whole fixing the retina works, people won't have to worry about a limited supply, and hopefully, this will also reduce the cost of this whole treatment as well, if only by a little

Most people when they think about zebra fish, it’s either like “zoo” or “as pets”. However in the next 5 or 10 years, they may change your lifestyle.

What am I talking about? I’m talking about its applications in health and medical science nowadays.

What do people now adays do when they are blind, have a hole in their retina, or have eye diseases? If I can recall from a few years back or even now, you have to undergo surgery, such as using laser to burn the hole and have it “close” up or you stay blind, or get eye transplant, or you go on medicine,

but your eye and as well as your vision, will never be as well again, and you can certainly discard the idea of having an eye as good as “new”.

A lot of people know that zebra fish can create/heal their retinas or regenerate a whole new one altogether, thus they are said to have the ability of “curing their blindness”.

Well guess what? They are ready to duplicate this in humans, and they are already very ahead of their game to say that in the next decade, they may find a cure for blindness.

They have already managed to create a stem cell (the cell that ...

      • further specializes into different cell i guess) that will eventually became the cells and nerves of the retina.

Today, they managed to use this stem cell to branch it off into every cell found in the eye! Meaning they can resurrect the eye, and recreate the retina, as long as this will work in humans.

It has already been working or shown progress in lab rats, so they are looking into replicating the results in human, to see if it can fix the retina in the same way.

This is great; i’m not sure how much of a “blind” person’s vision they can fix, but they are confident

it will work with stuff like glacoma or just, eye degeneration.

Anyway this news is very good for humans either way, because it shows we’re one step ahead in the research.

I think this is something we should all appreciate! Sight is a very important sense, and without it life would become dull.

Also a good news for humans is that zebrafish are not rare, in fact they’re quite in a good supply so that if this whole fixing the retina works, people won’t have to worry about a limited supply, and hopefully, this will also reduce the cost of this whole treatment as well, if only by a little.
