Jean Renoir or was undeniably the most interesting french filmmaker of the 1930s. A day in the country is one of his absolute finest works.

It tells the story of two

men and one woman taking a trip to the country together.

Both of the men falls in love with the beautiful woman, but she doesn’t really know who of them she prefers.

In the bottom line this story is very similar to what Truffaut did in the 1960s with Jules and Jim.

The style of Jean Renoir is very, very different from ...

      that though.

      He uses a subtile narrative.

What doesn’t happen here is more important than what does.

Sort of like “reading between the lines” in a book, moved to the art

      of cinema.

Somehow Renoir makes is images come alive and find their way to my heart all by themselves.

It’s an amazing thing with the masterful directors of cinema.

      Renoir ranks among the greatest.
