Kwaidan is an episode film following four different horror stories. The director is Masaki Kobayashi, and here he gets to prove what he could do with color film.

This might well be the most visually stunning piece of cinema I have ever

      experienced.

Not only is the depth and the colors beautiful, but the experimental way Kobayashi uses his camera to create some form of story within the storyline is absolutely masterful.

All four of these episodes aren’t as interesting though in my opinion.

      ...

      • The first one is about a one who goes schizophrenic and believes his wife is a ghost.

The second one about two men who encounters a snow ghost in the woods, the third about a samurai who is possessed by evil forces,

and the fourth about an elder man who is visited by samurai ghosts who wants to challenge him in a duel.

The second and fourth of these stories deserves full rating, but the other two makes it all sink a little bit.
